Name this Flower

Can anybody out there name any of these flowers for me?
I've spent the morning on the internet trying to identify the flowers that I already have on products in my Zazzle store. I have a bunch more flowers that I want to use to make products, but don't want to add more when I can't even figure out the names of the ones I already have there!

Hi Laurie, my guess about 09 is a hibiscus. 03 is an orchid, and 18 is a bromeliad. Google has a couple of good pages on bromeliads.

Larry: Thanks for your help. Changed these. Will keep looking for the others.

By the way, I think that orchid (03) was photographed using a color filter. Going by the shape it's definitely an orchid, but the color in the photograph is weird.

Hi, Larry: What do you mean by weird? I took the picture in 2006 with my cheap digital camera. No filters or anything. It was sitting on the edge of somebody's property by the sidewalk and I just shot the picture because I thought it looked cool.

By weird, I mean it's a very unusual color for an orchid.

Hi Laurie,

Your flowers are:

row 1 pic 02] Tillandsia cyanea (a bromeliad)

01] Veranera (Bouganvillea on left and maybe the one on the right, too... the pink thing; I can't magnify it enough to tell)

02] Looks like Weedeila to me

04] another bromeliad, this one looks to be a hybrid

07] Looks like a bush of Weedelia

10] flowers in center look like Petrea volubilis (known as Queen's wreath or Sandpaper Vine)

15] is a pink Camelia hybrid

16] is a Begonia hybrid

line 4 pic 3] is a modern Phaleanopsis hybrid (not a CR native orchid; they are from Asia, not the New World)

line 5 pic 1] looks more like the flower of some type of ginger or ginger
relative, instead of a hibiscus

Hope this may be useful for you.

¡Pura Florecer!

Wow! Thank you Larry & Paul! You are amazing. I just went in and edited every thing you gave me - except that I didn't realize that they were re-sorting themselves alphabetically as I edited - so by the time I got to your last 2 comments, Paul, I couldn't figure out which ones you were referring to!
Nevertheless, looks like most everything has been named except for 06 (one of my favorites - from Tortuguero), and the ferns in 11 (can I just call them river ferns?).

But Paul, I'm still curious about which one you are referring to as "modern Phaleanopsis hybrid (not a CR native orchid; they are from Asia, not the New World)" and a ginger instead of a hibiscus.

I tried to post a message a while ago, but it ain't here.

I think the orchid Paul means is the one I said had a weird color.

Yeah, Larry, you must be right about the orchid. That must be the one he's talking about because I think it is the only orchid there. Interesting to learn that it is a "foreiger!" I've been looking at the original photo of it, and I think the colors are fairly accurate, but it's hard to say because I can see that the flower pot and the wood in the background appear rather muted. I'm thinking that the one that looks more like a ginger than a hibiscus to Paul is probably the one I labeled "White Hibiscus." Still curious about 06. This is fun. I'm finally learning what some of my flowers are called! Thanks guys!

OK. So I can't spell this morning! First cup of coffee and all that!

Re Laurie on Mar. 20, 3:49pm:

Update of revised flower pix...

Item 4 of 18 labeled Bromeliads of Costa Rica is
Tillandsia cyanea. It maybe is the one with the weird color.

Item 10 of 18 labeled 'Orchids of Costa Rica', is the modern Phalaenopsis hybrid; it's lavender with white at the base of the petal (at the center of the flowers) and has about 8 flowers hanging over the edge of the pot.

Item 5 of 18, the spidery flower may be some kind of tree in bloom. It's the one with off-white ribbonlike petals and reddish-pink hairlike stamens displayed like a pom-pom. But I don't know what its name is, sorry.

Item 17 of 18 I looked at again. It could be a white hibiscus but the center of the flower is too indistinct to be sure. I was originally calling it a ginger based on the partial profile of the flower on the right of the photo. So now I'm not sure if it is a hibiscus or not. Did the white hibiscus have stamens and pistil in the center of the flower shaped like that shown in 'Big Red Hibiscus' (item 2), except instead being white with yellow stamens? If so, it is a hibiscus. If not it is probably a ginger. If you can provide me with a clearer photo I should be able to tell you.

OK - Hope that helps.

Paul
