We did the tour of Huaca Pucllana, which is a fascinating piece of history 2 blocks from our house. A great tour for 10 soles, too. I think everyone enjoyed it and learned some things. We hadn't been there in a couple of years. After this we had a nice walk down to Jose Pardo and over to Parque Kennedy. In the evening, we had a great Italian meal at La Bodega de la Trattoria, in easy walking distance from our house, right across the street from Huaca Pucllana. On the walk home we got to see Huaco Pucclana at night, which was another interesting photo op.

This was one of the historical places that I meant to find and get to eventually. And then today we found ourselves walking by it. At first we stopped to admire the beautiful building. As we looked around we realized the plaque said that it was the home of the famous Peruvian writer (1833 - 1919).

Day in La Punta

Fun day with our friends Esther & Steve (Gene's classmate). Combis (2) to La Punta on the far side of Callao (the port), tour of Fortaleza Real Felipe - (somewhat interesting if you're into the history; probably fascinating if you're into military history and equipment), incredibly delicious fresh seafood at a busy small neighborhood restaurant, a walk around gawking at the interesting old architecture.

Well, no, actually we didn't. But we thought about it. We talked about it. And then we thought about what the crowds would be like. And what transportation would be like. And then we thought about what an awesome fireworks display we could see right here in Miraflores at the "malacon" - the cliffs overlooking the ocean. And we could walk there. And then we thought about how comfortable it was right here at home. And how there would be fireworks going off all over town no matter where you were. And that you would probably see lots of fireworks from right in front of our house ... Guess I missed my big chance to sing and dance with the President.
It was a fabulous New Year show right here. Today will be a great day for walking around the empty streets since most everything will be closed and people will be sleeping it off.
