So after being out late celebrating the end of 2009 (Gracias a dios!) and the beginning of a bright new year, we were to check out of our apartment by 9 am!
Thankfully we had great landlords, who allowed us to leave our bags in the apartment until 1 o'clock while the cleaning got done for the next tenants. So we went for coffee at the ONLY place in town that was open this morning, walked a while, then went back for our stuff and got a taxi to go to the new apartment. The apartment is quite close to the other (maybe 15 blocks at the most), but when we arrive at the building, the taxi driver tells us that the location we gave to him is in San Isidro, not in Miraflores. He confers with another guy, who I assume is the building guard and who I later discover was a street-sweeper (!) and they decide that the place we are looking for is definitely in San Isidro (which certainly is not where I want to stay) and it appears that we have made a big mistake in finding this particular apartment. So off we go to San Isidro, which of course is absolutely NOT the place, which we absolutely knew for various reasons including having seen the photos, but got talked into thinking we were wrong. So then we returned to where we were in the first place, where the owner and rental agent were not ready to meet us and get us checked in. Fortunately we were actually in pretty good moods and didn't let the whole affair bother us as much as it might have. And it turns out that the apartment is much nicer than I expected. It is small but everything is fresh and new. Very modern with a full but tiny kitchen. It actually has 2 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. I feel like I've been upgraded to business class! Or maybe even first class. Tiny, but total luxury compared to the December apartment. And the neighborhood is great, too. January is going to be fun!
