We actually took time off today to do a cultural thing! Noche de Arte was billed as Peru's largest charitable art event. It only ran for three days, today being the last, so it seemed totally unreasonable not to go, no matter how much we still needed to do to get our new house ready. So it was a fabulous Sunday afternoon, with coffee first, at our favorite El Buen Gusto (5 blocks walk), then a nice walk into el centro (10 block walk) to buy the entradas to get into the art show at Banco Continental, a huge, modern bank building in San Isidro (a couple of miles from our area, a $2 taxi).
Even with all this excitement, we still managed to hit El Maestro and buy a bunch of stuff afterwards, so we now have most of the equipment needed for the bathrooms in the house. Towel bars, TP holders, shower curtains, no-skid pads, and even mirrors! (Hey, Emma! Remember the 4 months in Costa Rica when we didn't know what we looked like because we couldn't find mirrors to buy???) After dropping our treasures off at the house (the shower curtains look great!), we stopped off at the nearest Chifa (Peruvian Chinese eatery) for a great cheap dinner of prawns with vegetables and sweet-sour pork.
We're in shock that we got so much done all in one day.
And by the way, in spite of some of the amazingly high prices I saw, I will buy the art of The Tall Guy, or my friend Dale, or Sweet Aunt Kay way before I would buy any of those pieces. I was actually shocked that I didn't see one thing that I would like to own. Not like me. But then I'm becoming a shopper, which is also not like me. Who knew?
