Sunday in the Park

So about 3 in the afternoon we realized we'd been working at organizing the house ever since we woke up! Time to go for a walk... down to Parque Kennedy to see what was happening. There is, of course, always something happening at the park. There was a huge crowd gathered around one of the entertainment circles. Everyone was laughing and having a great time, but we couldn't get close enough to see what was happening! So we continued on until we got to the shoe-shine circle, where we bought butifarras (special sliced roast pork sandwiches with lots of thinly sliced onions) and ate them while watching the crowd and listening to a group of musicians who suddenly appeared. Of course while there we had to have picarones, too (lucsious donut-shaped sweet things made of a pumpkin dough and deep fried; served with a sweet honey sauce). After hanging out for a while, we walked through the area where a week-end expo related to environmental issues was just closing up. By that time, the artist decided he had to have popcorn, which we ate while perusing the nightly antique vendor section on our way to the childrens' park section, where we also found a living statue guy. After all this wandering, it was time to treat ourselves with thick creamy Spanish-style chocolate at our favorite diner. All in all, considering that we didn't get started until 3 o'clock, it was a pretty good day in the park!

Peru, or maybe better, Miraflores, sounds wonderful! We will get there eventually.
